Disneyland!

We haven't been able to take a vacation that didn't involve visiting family for years and got a bit of money for Christmas so decided to let loose and go to Disneyland for a day with our friends, Daniel and Maddy, when they went for several days.

We were there 9am (an hour after opening) to 11pm (close) and walked an estimated 15 miles and even in that time we didn't get to do everything we wanted to! It was pretty busy but we used fast passes and skipped a lot of shows in lieu of rides. We also got to enjoy 84° weather (yes, in the first week of January) at the height of the day.

Maddy got me a terrific Minnie ears headband that made every picture 100% cuter!

Rides we did this time, new to me marked with a * :
  • Jungle Cruise (with Christmas theme)
  • Indiana Jones
  • Haunted Mansion (with Nightmare Before Christmas theme)
  • Winnie the Pooh
  • Mark Twain Riverboat * (though I was suffering a mini heat stroke so used the ride as a rest/pass out)
  • Big Thunder (my favorite!)
  • Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough
  • King Arthur Carrousel
  • Mr Toad's Wild Ride (always Jed's first stop)
  • Matterhorn * (once in the day and once at night!)
  • It's a Small World (with Christmas theme)
  • Finding Nemo Submarine *
  • Space Mountain (I kept my eyes open this time and it wasn't as bad!)
  • Astro Blasters (boys against girls - boys cleaned up!)
  • Christmas Fantasy Parade *
Sleeping Beauty's Castle - good thing that fake snow doesn't melt!

Everything was decorated for Christmas, which was awesome.

Sleeping Beauty's Castle at night was amazing

Food! We ate lunch at the French Market in New Orleans Square at which Jed had the French Quarter Chicken and I had the Na Awlin's Salad. At the Julep Bar I got a Mint Julep and the other 3 got beignets (shaped like Mickey, of course). Jed had a frozen chocolate-covered banana and I had a pineapple Dole Whip (oh heavenly!). Then for dinner we went to Carnation CafĂ© on Main St and Jed got the Chicken-fried Chicken, while I had the Chef's Vegan Burger. We were completely satisfied with everything.

oh my gosh I could have eaten 5 more..

We got to start our pressed penny collection, getting Eeyore for Jed and Vanellope von Schweetz for me as well as a cowgirl Minnie and safari Minnie for our nieces.

The 5 hours of sleep we got the night before finally wore on us when the excitement was over and we were home. We can't say the same for our companions, though, who usually don't stay til close because they have an annual pass and don't need to squeeze every drop of fun out of the park when they go like we do, lol. Thanks guys for having such a fun time with us and staying late with us!

still stoked but tired on the bus ride back to our car

  1. Oh, you make me want to go to Disneyland! We should try a Dole Whip imitation recipe this weekend when you are down.
